Prevention Medication

Flea, Tick, and Heartworm Prevention

The importance of heartworm prevention cannot be stressed enough, especially in an area where heartworms are so prevalent. Heartworms are contracted through the bites of mosquitos and can take up to 6 months for them to mature into adults. Symptomatically speaking, if you suspect your dog or cat has heartworms, it is advised you watch for early signs of lethargy, fatigue, shortness of breath and coughing. More advanced stages of heartworms can look like; severe coughing, difficulty breathing at rest, swollen abdomen, pale gums associated with anemia, fainting or collapse. Heartworms not only affect the heart, but can be detrimental to an animals lungs, arteries, and liver. Heartworms can shorten an animals lifespan by 4-5 years. Luckily, we sell a variety of prevention medication to help protect your pet from this fatal condition with a yearly heartworm test.

Your pet must have a negative heartworm status in order to start them on prevention.

-For returning clients, you may call ahead and buy up to a years supply of prevention, as long as your animals status is known.
